Your Dog Needs A Vacation Too ! Bring Them To The Smoky Mountains

Are you coming to the Smoky Mountains this year for a vacation?  We sure hope so, don’t leave your dogs at home.  They would love to visit Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and the Sevierville area with you.  

Dogs are not allowed on most of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park trails but they are welcome in the picnic areas and parking lots in the Park.  They also can walk on a leash with you on the Gatlinburg Trail – a 1.9 mile walk from the Sugarland Visitor Center to just outside of Gatlinburg, TN and on the Oconaluftee River Trail - 1.5 mile trail from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, NC. Of course, you pets must be well-behaved, kept on a leash and you must always clean up after them.

Dogs are welcome at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge. The park is just off the Parkway near light #7 in Pigeon Forge. This beautiful, well kept park is a great place to walk your dogs with views of the river.

See our Pet Friendly cabins in Wears Valley – just a short drive from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg or Townsend. There’s a large, grassy common area with picnic tables and a small catch and release fishing pond just a short distance from the cabins where your dog can play(on a leash).

You might enjoy the walk down the hill from the Glimpse of Heaven cabin to the pond but if you are anything like me, I am too “out of shape” to trudge back up the hill !   But if you are in for a challenge, go for it !  You will really enjoy the hot tub after a little exercise…

Don’t leave your sweet dog at home when you leave for vacation, bring ‘em to the Smoky Mountains. They will love you for it !

Inspiration Point has a private setting with no immediate cabins around, just fantastic mountain views - not like many of the "resort" cabins in the Pigeon Forge -Gatlinburg area. It has a great yard, pet friendly(dogs only-no weight restriction-with prior approval & fee required) and family friendly.

Enjoy a game of pool or Scrabble. Sit on the porch or deck and rock a spell. You can even fish in the catch & release fishing pond a couple miles from the cabin.. Swimming pool access in the summer, there's indoor swimming about 10 miles away at the Pigeon Forge Recreation center.. They also have bowling, basketball, tennis and lots more for a small fee..

Heavenly Cabins and Inspiration Point are located in the Wears Valley community about 10 miles from Pigeon Forge, about 7 miles to Townsend and the GSMNP entrance. Gatlinburg is about 20-25 minutes away. Dollywood is about a 20 minute drive from the cabins.
Visit Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, a step back in time with cabins built in the 1800s, churches, graveyards and a grist mill. Park and take a short walk out to Abrams Falls(about 5 mile round trip hike) or just explore the beautiful valley between the two mountain ranges... Look for the horses, deer, wild turkey and often you might even catch a glimpse of a bear with her cubs... SLOW down and just enjoy the beauty..

FYI- Dog owners - most of the trails in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park do not allow dogs.. They are allowed on a small trail near Gatlinburg and the Sugarlands Visitor center.. You can also have them in parking and picnic areas in the park.. If you let them ride with you in Cades Cove and have the windows down - be sure to hold on tight - first glimpse of a deer or turkey and your dog might be out the window !! Keep them secured wherever you have them in the park.. Although pets are not permitted inside Dollywood, the one-of-a-kind kennel, Doggywood®, is available for the convenience of Guests and their dogs. Service animals for Guests with disabilities are allowed inside Dollywood. Doggywood® is a one-of-a-kind, climate-controlled indoor dog care facility. Doggywood is constructed in the style of a rustic Smoky Mountain cabin. For owners who really want to “pamper their pooch,” four cottages are available, or smaller kennels are available. Now while your furry friend enjoys Doggywood, you will find a new, $5 million dollar - River Battle Ride for the 2008 season beginning Friday, March 21, 2008. Dollywood will also add a 750-foot walkway to connect Timber Canyon with Craftsman’s Valley, reopen its Thunder Road attraction at Adventures in Imagination and host five spectacular festivals for the 2008 season. There is also a new entrance for 2008 to improve traffic flow into the theme park.

Dolly will be making her annual appearance at Dollywood on April 11th and 12th to help kick off the 2008 season with press events scheduled during the day on Friday followed by her traditional parade through Pigeon Forge on Friday evening - Aprill 11,2008. The Dolly Parade will begin on River Road near traffic light #7 and will travel north along the Parkway disbanding at the Belz Factory Outlet World at traffic light #3. The Dolly Parade will get underway at 6:00 p.m. Just a taste of the entertainment that can be found all year in Pigeon Forge.

(That's a decorative bear figurine to the left of Jack & Prada, they didn't seem to mind;-) They are too cute!)

Hi Cheryl!I had to stop a moment and let you and your husband know what a wonderful time Dennis and I had at this gorgeous cabin! The way you have it furnished is so warm and inviting. Our "kids", Jack and Prada, actually our dogs, had a great time too. They loved the fireplace! We were reluctant to leave, as you may remember, we did beg another night out of you during our time there! We are already planning a return for this Fall, and once we know what our schedules will be like I will be in touch!Thanks again for letting us stay in your beautiful cabin! Pet Friendly Cabins Near Pigeon Forge Gatlinburg, Townsend, Smoky Mountains

More and more people are traveling with their beloved pets..You can now find accommodations for the most "pampered doggie diva" or your basic "nothing but a hound dog". The Smoky Mountains of TN and NC are quickly becoming a favorite "pet friendly" vacation destination. It is easier than ever to enjoy a real vacation with the family pooch and in some cases with other pets as well, although dogs still are the most accepted pet in vacation spots around the nation. About 10 million Americans travel with their pets and 75% of those pets are dogs...

Many hotels now cater to pets and their owners, I read of a hotel that even offers a doggie menu with T-bone steak and tuna with caviar- go figure... But I feel that the most comfortable lodging in the Smoky Mountain area for a family and their pet is a vacation rental home or cabin. Why not have all the comforts of home and much more on vacation for just a little more than the cost of a cramped hotel room ? Often you may end up saving money since you will not have to eat every meal out. Fully equipped kitchens are the norm in most of vacation rental homes, which enables you to have breakfast on the deck or grill a juicy steak. Games, pool tables, hot tubs and swimming pool access are just a few of the amenities that can be offered. Wow, your pet and family will love this.... It's all up to you....

You will find many websites now dedicated to offering these "pet friendly" homes in all areas of the country.. Just be certain to check for any stipulations, many have pet weight restrictions or other guidelines to consider. If in doubt, call or email the owners or vacation management company to inquire about the requirements for bringing your pet. There normally will be a pet fee but would generally be less than the cost of boarding.. Please be a responsible pet traveler, obey the rules and be certain that your dog or pet will not "act out" in an unfamiliar place. "Test the waters" before leaving them alone in a vacation rental. If you are concerned about leaving them alone while you are out sightseeing, search for a local pet sitter or doggie daycare.
